lifestyles of the bored and selfproclaimed-famous

celebrity |səˈlebrətē|
noun ( pl. -ties)
a famous person.
• the state of being well known : his prestige and celebrity grew.

A celebrity is a widely-recognized or notable person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. One may not become a celebrity unless public and mass media interest is piqued.

Those that seek out publicity for themselves are often called a media tart whereas those that use their private life as a vehicle for enhanced celebrity status, sometimes desperately, are referred to as a media whore.

All this social networking got me thinking..
Are we all not celebrities by association? At the very least, 'media tarts'...borderline media whores
..
We're our own tabloids, our own paparazzi, we create our own buzz and we 'tip off the press' on our every move, and I do mean our EVERY move, right down to something as little as what we had for breakfast including our own version of product placements since we find it crucial to let the world know we prefer Cheerios over Mini-Wheats, or Starbucks over Second Cup...or that we just don't get how some people can drive Buick's when we should all be driving Mercedes....
We tip off our friends, the public, on where we hang out and what we do and who we're with...who we're dating, who we're hating....
It is virtually impossible not to feel like a silent stalker to many people's lives...keeping track of everyone seems exhausting when you need a social networking application to keep what everyone is doing up to date in real time...because, you know, you can't just call up your friends and ask them what they're up to yourself.
Have we really become that lazy? More importantly, have we really become that self-important where we believe the world actually cares to find out what we're up to at all times of the day, incuding our schedules, locations, preferences and let's not forget photos of proof?

I'm not bashing, since that would make me the biggest hypocrite... I'm on facebook, I joined twitter recently, and have now been suckered into bright kite. But I'm just not getting it..just like I didn't get facebook at the time...or like I still don't get how people build relationships over weeks and months with a person over text messages and e-mails, the odd phone calls, while seeing each other once or twice....

But that's a whole 'nother story...
We are turning into a very lonely group of people... maybe I'm alone in this, but to me it's not enough to see a picture of you eating a hot dog on queen west, or dancing it up at the drake...I want to do and share and experience those things with you. Whether a hot dog, a tv marathon, or a glass of wine...most things are best when shared... posting about it is essentially flaunting it in other people's faces!

/end rant no one will ever read.

I read it!

And I agree, not that interested in telling others. Think it's much more interesting to just have a personal life.

I.e. talking to someone and then just keeping it between the 2 people without feeling a compulsion to share anything.
